“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.” — Hosea 6:1.
We don’t like to think about the the Lord correcting us. We want nothing but sunshine and butterflies from God. The wrath of the Lord is always at work in the world to discipline us for our practicing atheism.
The Lord corrects us not to make us dutifully obedient. The Lord is not impressed by our moral self striving. He corrects us to drive us into the arms of his mercy. To stop trying to live on our own terms and to turn to relying on God’s power for our lives. The Lord will work his Resurrection power to restore us to life and bring us into His presence (6:2).
